You do not need a paid plan for every AI product on the internet. A personal stack works when each layer has a job: chat, files, images, and automation. Everything else is optional.
The four-layer setup
- Chat: one general model for thinking, outlining, and rewriting.
- Files: a place to drop PDFs, notes, and product docs so answers stay on your material.
- Images: a generator or editor for thumbnails and simple mockups.
- Automation: one connector that moves data between forms, email, and a spreadsheet.
When to pay
Upgrade the one tool you open daily. Leave the rest on free tiers until a limit actually blocks a real task. If two paid tools overlap, cancel the weaker one the same week you notice it.
Write your stack down. If you cannot explain what each app is for in one sentence, it does not belong in the stack yet.
